IT looks like Hanazakarino Kimitachihe is going to be the new Meteor Garden - the next mega Taiwanese idol drama to whip fans into a frenzy over its impossibly cute characters.
Actually, it was only after my cousin kept raving over 'drop-dead gorgeous' leading man Wu Chun that I decided to see what the fuss was about.
Now I am smitten too.
Broodingly handsome but boasting a six-pack to rival K-popster Rain, this tall and chiselled member of boy band Fahrenheit is a walking Adonis.
He is perfect for the role of Quan, an introverted high jump champion whose high school life goes off-track after a leg injury.
Help comes in the most unlikely form of a new boy in class - Ruixi, a kooky transfer student from the US, who goes up to him and declares: 'I like you very much, can we be friends?'
Little does Quan realise that Ruixi (Ella Chen) is actually a girl who flew thousands of kilometres just to meet him in person after watching his high jump competitions on TV.
To enter the boys' school he attends, she chops off her long hair, sheds 20kg and dons a chest-compressing vest to pass off as a boy.
They end up being roommates.
And so begins an adventure brimming with boisterous laughter and heartwarming love.
Think of it as the longer Asian version of Hollywood comedy She's The Man, which starred Amanda Bynes.
The brilliant story is filled with pleasant surprises from sudden turns of events, like a visit from Ruixi's unsuspecting brother (JJ Lin).
Even the gay undertones are a blast - like when Quan's best pal Xiuyi (Jiro Wang) becomes inexplicably attracted to the girly Ruixi and starts to question his own sexuality.
The producers could not have picked a better Ruixi.
Androgynous Ella (of girl band S.H.E) is so good at masquerading as a boy that she deserves another Golden Bell nomination for her acting.
Equally amusing to watch is Jiro, who brightens the show with his sunshine laughter and wacky ways, like scaring Ruixi by dropping his pants.
But the hero of the show is still Wu Chun's Quan, who gradually transforms from aloof chap to guardian angel of Ruixi's secret.
Both are secretly in love with each other, and it is so sweet to see them trying to protect each other in their own quiet way
